'G' (for Gustav) was one of these and our particular liveried aircraft is a model of the one flown by Kommando Nowotny, a Luftwaffe fighter Gruppe, which had been formed in 1944 as Sqn II/JG-7 Nowotny Schwarm. The squadron was under the command of Major Walter Nowotny, a famous Austrian WWII fighter ace, who was sadly killed towards the end of 1944. However, JG-7 is credited with at least 136 'kills' fully documented, with a probable further 420 Allied fighter planes being destroyed by this crack force. Our Oxford Bf109G Messerschmitt represents the aircraft which flew in April 1945 and which was dedicated to the memory of Major Nowotny. As the war ended, almost 34,000 Bf109s had been built, making it the most widely produced fighter aircraft in history.
