Nunu Models 1/24th 24040 Porsche 911 992 LM 18 Pink Pig Race Car Kit
A 1:24 scale plastic assembly model kit of Porsche's iconic 911 RSR 'Pink Pig' Grand Touring Endurance car. With the look based on their classic 1971 Porsche 917/20 'Pink Pig' racecar, the famous livery came about because Count Rossi, of the Martini & Rossi drinks company, was not impressed with the car during testing and refused to let it be raced in the signature blue, red and white Martini colours. Porsche designer Anatole Lapine had to quickly design a new livery to be used. The 1971 car, along with the new pink colour livery, looked very much like a pig from the front. Despite only featuring in one single endurance race, the car became one of the most famous Porsche racecars of all time.
In 2018, the pink pig livery was recreated for a Porsche 911 RSR competing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Raced by the Porsche GT team, and piloted by drivers Michael Christensen, Kévin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor, the #92 car would ultimately have a far more successful outing than the car from which it took inspiration. In an outstanding performance, car #92, the new Pink Pig, finished first in the GTE Pro category after a gruelling 344 laps. The Pink Pig had finally brought home the bacon.
