Navis Neptun 1/1250 L7V British Airship R100
Navis Neptun's fine model, in a display box, of the private initiative competitor for the government sponsored R101.
Built by the Airship Guarantee Company, the R100 was very interestingly designed by a team led by one of the finest aircraft engineers in history, Sir Barnes Wallis, subsequently of bouncing bomb fame. Built at the RNAS station at Howden in Yorkshire, it first flew on 16th Dec. 1929. After a successful voyage to Canada, flying was banned by the British government in response to the disaster with the R101 and R100 was subsequently scrapped. It's interesting to reflect on what might have been if the project had been persevered with!
