Navis Neptun 1/1250 1392 USS Bayfield APA 33 an Attack Transport Ship 1944
The flagship of Admiral Don P. Moon on D-Day and manned by the USCG, she served as an Attack Transport, Hospital Ship and Command Ship off the beaches until 25th June.
Bayfield sailed from Plymouth to the transport area off Utah Beach and anchored 11.5 miles off-shore to launch her LCVPs for the invasion. as the invasion progressed she moved closer to the beaches. Bayfield was also flagship of Task Force 87 for the invasion of Southern France in August 1944.
