Navis Neptun 1/1250 1364A USS Blue WW2 Destroyer, as built, 1937
A nicely finished model of the Bagley class destroyer USS Blue DD-387 and modeled in as-built fit. Launched at Norfolk Navy Shipyard in 1937 USS Blue served as flagship of Destroyer Division 7 from 1938 until sent for overhaul 1941.
USS Blue was on picket duty at the Battle of Savo yet failed to detect the approaching Japanese warships.....
Blue joined Task Group 62.2 (TG 62.2) for the Battle of Guadalcanal on 7 August 1942, providing fire-support and screening. Although present, she took no active part in the Battle of Savo Island on 9 August, but helped with evacuation of survivors from HMAS Canberra (D33) that was severely damaged in the battle. After patrolling off Nouméa, New Caledonia, from 13 August to 17 August, Blue returned to Guadalcanal, arriving 21 August. At 0359, 22 August, while patrolling in "Ironbottom Sound" she was torpedoed by Kawakaze. The explosion wrecked Blue's main engines, shafts, and steering gear, as well as killing nine men and wounding 21. Throughout the 22nd and 23rd, unsuccessful attempts were made to tow Blue to Tulagi. She was scuttled at 2221 on 23 August 1942 after all attempts to save her failed. With thanks to Wikipedia
