Admiral Spaun was the first modern light cruiser to be constructed for the Austro-Hungarian Navy, shortly before the outbreak of the First World War. In common with her contemporary fleet mates, she was smaller than the equivalent ships in other navies at the time but comparable to what were called Scouts in other countries. This ship was folloed by the Helgoland-class of light cruisers that were larger and more heavily armed.
Admiral Spaun was handed to Britain after WW1 and scrapped.
