Navis Neptun 1/1250 124N HMS Lion, Admiral Beatty's Flagship at Jutland
HMS Lion is a second-hand, 1/1250 scale, waterline, metal model of the Royal Navy Battlecruiser in 1914 by Navis Neptun 124N. This model is now out of production by Navis Neptun.
HMS Lion is modelled with a small tripod mast, ahead of the fore funnel, as carried from 1914. Lion was Admiral Beatty's flagship until late in 1916 and had a very active life being present at most of the North Sea Battles in WW1. Early in the battle of Jutland, Lion was hit by a 12" shell from Hipper's flagship, Lutzow, that almost proved fatal. By 1915, the anti-torpedo nets had been removed from the British Battlecruisers in case they broke free in action and fouled the propellors. The Germans removed theirs after the Battle of Jutland in 1916.
This model is the nearest representative for Princess Royal that Navis does not model.
