Navis Neptun 1/1250 1011 Weser, ex-Seydlitz, German aircraft carrier, WW2
A 1/1250 scale metal model of Weser by Navis Neptun 1011.
Building work on the fourth Hipper-class cruiser, Seydlitz, was suspended in October 1939 at 85% completion. A little over a year later, it was decided to complete the ship as an auxiliary aircraft carrier to the design of this model and the name Weser was allocated.
In 1943, all work stopped again after the decision to scrap the surface fleet was taken. The ship was not scrapped but was scuttled to avoid capture by the Russians. After WW2, the Russians announced that they would complete the two ex-German heavy cruisers in their posession but this did not happen and Seydlitz (Poltava) and Lutzow (Petropavlovsk) were scrapped in 1950-51.
