Knispel was killed in April 1945, he was 23 years old. As seen below not exactly a man of military bearing, but the top tank ace of WW2.
Wittmann is often seen as the Prince of Panzers, and a lot of this was down to the Joseph Goebbels the Reich Minister of Propaganda. Wittmann along with other German Wunderkind, Otto Carius, fighter aces such as Eric Hartmann, Herman Graf and U Boat Ace Gunther Prien, were backed up by massive propaganda, that turned these German servicemen into overnight superstars. The propaganda worked very as the allies fell for this and many post war historians, modern historian are de-bunking much of the Nazi military superiority myth. Within the ranks of the normal German Army was a young, and small in stature Sergeant ( Feldwebel) call Kurt Knispel, who scored about 168 kills as gunner and later commander of Tiger 1 and King Tiger Tanks Trouble with Kurt Knispel he was not the perfect poster boy for the Nazi's, for a start not an SS Officer, often unkept with filthy uniform and long hair, and often in trouble with the Nazi authorities. When it come to models, Knispel is often overlooks, you see plenty of models of Wittmann, and Carius, but Knispel you have got to do some digging, but digging I have done, and within one of the kits we sell is the King Tiger commanded by Kurt Knispel.
