John's Model Shipyard RN401 HMS Empire Halberd LSI based on a US C1 ship 1/1200
Empire Halberd is a kit of an Empire Battleaxe-class LSI provided to the UK new in 1943 under Lease-Lend. The 1/1200 scale, waterline, 3D printed kit is by John's Model Shipyard JMS RN401.
In the large photograph a kit has been finished and painted in what appears to have been a graded camouflage patter with a lighter grey funnel and masts. The landing craft are also painted light grey to match a photograph. A month after D-Day, Empire Halberd hit a mine off Lands End that had been laid by a U-boat. The damage was aroud the rudder and the ship was repaired in the UK. While in dock, the ship was purchased by the Royal Navy and re-named HMS Silvio. In 1946, she was returned to the US.
