The F6 Hellcat was one of the most famous and reliable aircraft of the Second World War. It replaced its predecessor, the standard US Navy fighter 'Wildcat,' which did not match the fighting capabilities of the Japanese 'Zero.' First introduced in 1943. the Hellcat proved itself to be an aggressive attack fighter, easily manouverable and able to withstand a lot of combat punishment. Hellcats were also used by the Royal Navy and later by the French in the 1950's campaign in Indo-China.
