The LCVP was actually a modification of the Higgins Industries 'Eureka' boat, and it was the most numerous of WW2's famous higgins boats. In Normandy alone, neraly 1100 of these crafts landed in the American and British sectors. Basically constructed of wood, the LCVP was used for tranporting fully armed troops, light vehicles and other equipment and supplies. It was boats of this class that made landings at Normandy ( D-Day ), Iwo joma, Guadalcanal, Tarawa and hundreds of other landings possible.
