Battleship “Grosser Kurfurst” served with Kaiser German Navy of WWI period.
    She belonged to the “Konig” – type ships. “Grosser Kurfurst” was commissioned 30.07.1914 and entered the 3rd Squadron of Open Sea Navy (Hochseeflotte). The battleship took part in many sorties of Open Sea Navy and fought in Battle of Jutland (May 31 – June 1,1916). She received 8 main caliber hits and was seriously damaged, some rooms were flooded. Upkeep ended July, 16, 1916, and “ Grosser Kurfurst” entered her 3rd Squadron again.
     November, 5, 1916 the battleship absorbed a torpedo from “J-1” British submarine.
     “Grosser Kurfurst” was send to Baltic Sea in February, 1917. 5.03.1917 “Grosser Kurfurst” and her sistership “Kronprinz” had an accidental collision.
    The battleship took part in operations against Russian Navy in October, 1917 at Riga Bay region. 13.10.1917 she was seriously damaged by russian mine and was recovered to the base.
     After the armistice was signed, “ Grosser Kurfurst” was interned by alliances at Scapa Flow, were she was scuttled by her crew June, 21, 1919.
