Hobby Master HA2821 F-22A Raptor 09-4185, 1st OG, Langley AFB, June 2017
The USAF developed a requirement for a new air superiority fighter to replace the F-15 Eagle. Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF). The aircraft is constructed using 39% titanium, 24% composite material, 16% aluminum and 1% thermoplastic by weight. All these components contribute to the F-22 being a light weight, extremely maneuverable, extremely fast aircraft that uses stealth technology. The F-22 is also capable of ground attack, electronic warfare and signals intelligence.
On October 8, 2017 six USAF F-22 Raptors arrived RAF Lakenheath with the purpose of demonstrating their commitment to NATO and as a show of force to deter any actions that would threaten the security of the region. On October 17, 2017 a further six F-22s arrived at RAF Lakenheath and included in the second arrival was 09-4185 from the 27th FS “Fightin’ Eagles”. After a brief stay at RAF Lakenheath six of the twelve F-22’s; including 09-4185, departed for Langley on October 19, 2017.
