The Eurofighter Typhoon is a twin-engine multi-role fighter built by a European consortium made up of the UK, Germany, Spain and Italy. With 4 countries involved it is necessary to have what they call Tranches (similar to contracts) that are broken down into batches and blocks. The development of the Eurofighter began in 1983 with the prototype maiden flight of the Eurofighter taking place on March 27, 1994. The first fully equipped Tranche 2 Instrumented Production Aircraft (IPA7) took to the skies on January 16, 2008.
Kuwait has ordered 28 Eurofighters, 22 single-seat and 6 two-seaters. Delivery began in 2020 and will be completed in 2023. In December 2019 Eurofighter 414 completed the first successful flight at the Flight Test Center of the Leonardo Aircraft Division at Turin-Caselle. This was the first Instrumented Series Production aircraft equipped with the Captor E-Scan Radar with Phase Enhancement, Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod and other electronic upgrades as specified by the Kuwait contract. These aircraft will make Kuwait the 8th customer for the Eurofighter.
