Hobby Master 1/72 HA1334 A-10C Thunderbolt II 75th Anniversary P47 Scheme
On May 4th 2021 A-10C Thunderbolt II 78-0618 c/n A10-0238 belonging to the 124th FW/190th FS 'Skull Bangers' of the Idaho ANG was unveiled wearing this WW2 era P-47 Thunderbolt inspired heritage paint scheme to mark the 75th anniversary of the 124th fighter wing.
The paint scheme is of 405190 with a code 8N representing the first Republic P-47 Thunderbolts used by the 124th FW/405th FS during WW2 with white nose, D-Day invasion stripes and WW2 era USAF star and bar. 8N denoted the 405th FS.
October 1975 saw delivery of the first USAF A-10A and deployment in March 1976. Built specifically for close ground support the pilot is protected by titanium armor while being covered by a bubble canopy giving a commanding view. The Warthog has everything needed to survive, dual engines; self-sealing fuel cells; redundant flight control systems protected by titanium armor; a 30 mm seven-barrel Gatling gun; a wide array of bombs and missiles. This plane packs a heavy punch and can stay on scene a long time to deliver its payload.
