Suffren was the class leader of four Washington Treaty heavy cruises and was the only one of her class to survive World War 2. She was in Alexandria in 1940 and was interned there until 1943 when she joined the Allied cause. Her sisterships had been scuttled at Toulon in 1942. After the end of the war, she continued in commission until 1962 when she became an accommodation ship. She was renamed Ocean in 1964 and broken up in 1974.
