Completed at Swindon in July 1952 82007 was allocated to the Western region and sent to Tyseley, the formers GWR's principal Birmingham area shed. The GWR was well supplied with capable tank engines so like many of the standard tanks 82007 moved around a lot, going to Barry in October 1953, then Treherbert in July 1955, moving on to Shrewsbury that December. A flurry of moves in the latter half of 1958 saw 82007 working from Shrewsbury, Leamington, Wrexham Rhosddu and Worcester sheds until arriving at Bristol Bath Road shed in November. Alternating between the former Midland Barrow Road and GWR St Philips March sheds after Bath Road was closed to steam locomotives in 1960 number 82007 remained allocated to Bristol sheds until withdrawn from service in June 1964.
