Coastlines 1/1250 CL-SS09 HMS M1 Monitor Submarine 1918 camouflaged Model
A 1/1250 scale resin model of HMS M1, a monitor submarine, completed in 1918 and finished in a camouflage scheme shown in the photograph.
HMS M1 was accidentally rammed whilst submerged by SS Vidar and sank with all hands in 1925. Recent examination shows that the Vidar's stem hit the 12" gun and broke the mounting out of the pressure hull, causing catastrophic flooding. There were 3 submarines in the class but the others, M2 & M3 were completed after the end of WW1 and they were not camouflaged. A single 12", 40 caliber gun from a stock for the Formidable class pre-dreadnought battleships was fitted in a mounting forward of the bridge. The mounting had limited training and elevation but proved satisfactory in service.
