Coastlines CL-SA17a Salvaged German battleship, Kaiserin, with tall airlocks 1/1250
A 1/1250 scale model of the German battleship, Kaiserin, shortly after she had been brought to the surface of Scapa Flow using compressed air. Tall airlocks were fitted to the capsized hull so that workers could patch the hull from the inside without being encumberred by diving suits. When all the holes in the hull had been sealed, more air was pumped into the hull to make it bouyant.
The next stage in the salvage process was to shorten the airlocks to improve stability on the surface and prepare the hulk for towing to Rosyth for scrapping in a drydock there.
