Coastlines 1/1250 CL-SA13 M T Haven, damaged VLCC, 1991
The M.T. Haven is a 1/1250 scale waterline model of the Super Tanker which caught fire off Genoa after off-loading part of her cargo of crude oil. The model is made by Coastlines Models, CL-SA13 and shows the ship shortly before the bow broke off and sank. The two parts of the model should be displayed in line with a bow to stern measurement of 240mm.This model is ideal to display a collection of tugboats, fireboats, customs vessels & boom deployment vessels. A model of a burning oil slick could be displayed in the gap between the bow and the stern.
The M T Haven (ex-Amoco Milford Haven) was already infamous because she was a sistership to the Amoco Cadiz and she had earlier been hit by an Iranian missile in the Arabian Gulf. To this day, the stern section is the largest wreck dive site in the Mediterranean. In 1991, the M T Haven had just off-loaded part of her full load of crude oil to an off-shore facility when there was a large explosion and fire aboard. The ship burned for 3 days off Genoa and, despite an attempt to tow her inshore, she broke up and sank polluting most of the Mediterranean coast from the French Riviera to Genoa. The model shows the ship shortly before the bow sank. (See also Amoco Cadiz, CL-SA14)
