Coastlines 1/1250 CL-HM-A17 U-boat Bunker, Brest, 1944
A 1/1250 scale waterline resin model of one of the larger U-boat bunkers, the bunker at Brest by Coastlines Models CL-HM-A17.
The bunker was hit by 6 tallboy bombs during WW2 but only two penetrated the roof and exploded inside but not below ground and only minor damage was caused. The structure survived and the roof was subsequently strengthened and fitted with steel re-enforced rails designed to deflect and de-cap bombs but the work was not completed before the bunker was evacuated. The model represents the condition of the bunker in 1944.
The roof is a separate casting, revealing interior details.
The building was later used by the French Navy and rumour had it that the French nuclear submarines were here but now it is used as warehouses and workshops and there is a large visitor centre and exhibition space including an ocean liner exhibition with entrance via passenger reception fittings from the French liner Normandie.
