During WW2, Franconia was requisitioned as a troopship and saw service in many theatres. She served as Winston Churchill's headquarters at the Yalta Conference and returned to Cunard service in 1949 on the Liverpool-Quebec route until 1956 when she and Ascania were replaced by the new Saxonia, Ivernia and Carinthia.
