Albatros 1/1250 AL185 Arcadia, P&O passenger liner, built 1954
Arcadia is a 1/1250 scale, metal, waterline model fully assembled and painted by Albatros in Germany, AL185. This model is second-hand and is in superb condition, see photograph.
Arcadia (built by John Brown) had a half sister, Iberia (built by Harland & Wolff). Arcadia had a domed funnel created by John Brown to disperse funnel smoke and gasses whereas Iberia's was designed to channel gases upwards by forward motion of the ship. Iberia was scrapped early (1972) because of her unreliability while Arcadia continued as a cruise ship until 1979. It is a surprise then that the model Iberia (AL185A) has been re-cast more often than her sister-ship but Arcadia has not re-appeared in the catalogue for many years.
