(202.8 km/h) on Stoke Bank on the East Coast Mainline and therefore obtained the World Speed record for a steam locomotive, a record that is still unbeaten to this day. This year sees the 70th Anniversary of the record being achieved and to celebrate this milestone Hornby are producing 5000 models of the Mallard as it was on the momentous day with the exterior metal parts plated in 18ct gold. Each locomotive is presented in a specially commissioned pack and is complete with a numbered certificate.
