A number of servicable Fiesler Fi 156 Storch aircraft were captured by British and American forces as the North Africa campaign drew to a close. Several aircraft were used by the allied air forces as general communications and transport hacks, often being 'adopted' by particular officers. Air Vice Marshal Harry Broadhurst RAF brought one aircraft to England in 1944, taking command of 83 Group, 2nd TAF for Operation Overload, the Normandy invasion. Using the Storch as his personal aircraft AVM Broadhurst even flew Winston Churchill into Normandy.
The Falcon models Storch is a mixed materials model with diecast main structures and fine details moulded in plastic, allowing the spindly appearance of the open framework to be well represented.
