The Boeing 747 awakens more emotion than any other airliner. Its successor, the 747-8 abounds with innovation, advanced technology and efficiency. It made its first flight on 20.3.2011. As a completely newly designed aircraft the Boeing 747-8 builds on the positive features of the proven Boeing 747 series. The 747-8 is 5.6 m (18 ft 4 ins) longer and has a maximum take-off weight of 442 tons. Its wings have significantly improved aerodynamic qualities and the Gent GEnx-2B engines consume considerably less fuel (about 20%). The maximum load of the cargo version is 134,200 kg (295,200 lbs). The aircraft can carry up to 243,120 litres (53,480 gals) of fuel. Based in Luxembourg - Cargolux operates the largest fleet of 747-8F's in Europe and uses them for global freight transport.
