The Triumph TR4A was used by a small number of Britain's Police
forces, including Salford City Police and Manchester City Police. KRJ
500E was delivered to Salford City Police on the 1st June 1967. In 1968
the two forces amalgamated (with others) to form Greater Manchester
Police. At that time the combined total fleet of TR4As was eight cars.
The car modelled patrolled the Salford and north Manchester area.
Legend has it that the force favoured the Triumph over the MG because
neighbouring Lancashire Police used MGs and it wouldn't have been right
for Manchester to copy the Lancashire force! As performance saloon cars
became popular the British Police ceased to use two-seater sports cars.
