EFE Rail OO E85001 BR 68075 J94 Class Austerity 0-6-0ST BR Black Late Crest Weathered
The Hunslet 'Austerity' 0-6-0 saddle tank locomotives were ordered by the Ministry of Supply during WW2 as a standard heavy shunting engine. Hunslet based the design on shunting engines they had built for the steel industry in the late 1930s. They were simple, robust and powerful engines, well suited to heavy shunting tasks, with wheels large enough for local goods service.
In need of replacements for older shunting engines the LNER purchased a number of ex-MoS engines, these being much cheaper than building new engines, giving the type their class reference J94.
This model BR ex-LNER J94 class locomotive number 68075 is finished in the standard black livery with later lion holding wheel crest and completed with a weathered finish.
