These 6 wheeled 20 ton brake vans were built from the late 1890s as the weight of goods trains increased, needing a heavier brake van for the guard to control them. The Southern retained these brake vans in service with many lasting through WW2 before withdraw commenced with the post-war reduction of goods traffic. Many entered British Railways service at nationalisation, being withdrawn in BR livery through the 1950s.Supplied with metal wheels, 3 link couplings and sprung buffers
