The Southern Railways' standard brake van design did not emerge until 1928 using the heavy underframe from the SE&amp;CR design van fitted with a very short central cabin body, quickly earning the nickname of 'pill boxes'. Most importantly though the vans did have a reputation for good riding and having a good brake.<br />Model finished in Southern Railway brown livery with red ends. 13,645 of these hoppers were built, this kit representing one from the first batch of 409 built in 1936. Featuring riveted construction and LNER brake gear, many lasted into the 1970s. Transfers for LNER and BR. These finely moulded plastic wagon kits come complete with pin point axle wheels and bearings, 3 link couplings and transfers. This kit is supplied with pre-coloured moulded parts although painting can improve the appearance. Based on a typical GWR design, this style of fencing was of course relatively common in many places, being found alongside the platform, around the goods yard, engine shed and station entrance, as well as in many other non-railway settings. So the opportunities for the modeller to use this fencing on their layout will be wide and varied.<br />The mouldings are extremely fine and sharp, and the distinctive angled four-sided profile of the separate "spears" have been perfectly replicated. All components are moulded in black plastic and so can be left as they are, or painted if required. Careful modellers will easily be able to hang the gates on their hinges so that they can swing open. The spear tip of the fencing is true to the prototype and as a result the finished model will add plenty of character to any scene.<br />Contains 20 straight panels, total length 890mm, 35 inches, plus 1 large and 2 small gates.
