Oceana was a long-serving liner built in 1913 with many names in her past: Meteor (1927), Neptunia (1927), Peer Gynt (1925),, Avari (1924) & Sierra Salvada (1917). Before the outbreak of WW2 she was operated by Hamburg Amerika Linie on behalf of Deutsche Arbeitsfront GMBH providing cruises for workers.
