Bachmann Winter 2021/22

New Bachmann & Graham Farish models
Highly detailed model of the Festiniog Railway double Fairlie locomotive No.11 Earl of Merioneth, the second locomotive to be restored to service on the Festiniog line after preservation in 1956. The engine is presented here in late-1960s finish of lined green livery with white-edged wheels.
Earl of Merioneth was one of the titles held by HRH Prince Philip and now passed to HRH Prince Charles.

Synonymous with the Ffestiniog Railway, the Double Fairlie is an icon of the Narrow Gauge world and this instantly recognisable locomotive is now available in OO9 scale for the first time. The Bachmann Narrow Gauge model incorporates a high level of detail, with tooling designed to accommodate the detail variants seen on the real locomotives in order to produce a model of the highest fidelity, which is brought to life by the exquisite livery application that combines Ffestiniog Railway-specification colours with authentic lining, crests and plates.

Detailed model of the BR Railfreight SPA low-sided, air-braked steel carrier wagon finished in Railfreight flame red livery.

As part of the development of the long wheelbase air braked wagons intended for fast goods trains a flat bed stake sided steel carrier wagon was produced. This proved ill-suited for many steel products, so following trials with a low-sided body 1,1000 SPA wagons were built. These have low, steel drop-door side bodies able to retain coiled products like rod/wire and featured floor bolsters suitable for loading and unloading by fork-lift truck.
As with many of the air-braked wagons there have been many subsequent modifications, both for revenue and departmental uses.

British Rails' second and much more successful design of pallet carrying vans the Vanwide featured double doors in the central section of the wagon which when opened fully gave access to over half the length of the van. Loads were now placed centrally within the wagon wheelbase, resolving the unequal loading experienced with first design off-set door vans.

Dubbed 'Vanwide' these vans continued in service alongside the large air braked vans introduced from the late 1960s, with many being equipped with air brakes in place of the original vacuum train brakes, their last user being the military, whose depots had sharply curved track unsuitable for the larger long wheelbase vans.
