The second batch of the popular BR standard class 3MT prairies has arrived. This was a modern and highly successful design as the locomotives offered a significant increase in power over the smaller class 2 versions, always welcomed by footplate crews!

The model is extremely well detailed!

Sadly however none of the class survived to preservation, the early, low-powered diesel locomotives being produced to handle the branchline freights and passenger duties being turned over to diesel units. However there is a new project to build a new loco on the SVR well underway, with the frames having been erected at Bridgenorth.

Hornby still list their excellent Crosti boilered BR 9F 2-10-0 model with the Railroad range, but we feel the detailing of these locomotives places them well at home alongside the standard range models.
92028 brings the hard-working heavy goods steam engine to life in this heavily weathered state which the Crosti's seem to have lived in.

The Hunslet 'Austerity' 0-6-0 saddle tank locomotives were ordered by the Ministry of Supply during WW2 as a standard heavy shunting engine. Hunslet based the design on shunting engines they had built for the steel industry in the late 1930s. They were simple, robust and powerful engines, well suited to heavy shunting tasks, with wheels large enough for local goods service.
In need of replacements for older shunting engines the LNER purchased a number of ex-MoS engines, these being much cheaper than building new engines, giving the type their class reference J94.
This model BR ex-LNER J94 class locomotive number 68043 is finished in the standard black livery with the initial British Railways lion over wheel emblem.
DCC Ready, Next18 decoder required for DCC operation.
