The battleship Tirpitz, like its sister the Bismarck, had the heaviest artillery ever installed on German ships. Overall barrel length was 19.6m and the weight of a single gun barrel 111 tonnes. Tirpitz entered service in 1941 and on 1st April 1944 in a Norwegian fjord near Tromso was hit a Grand Slam bombs dropped by RAF Lancasters and capsized.
