200 of these vans were built in 1935 and lasted into the 1960s. They were not confined to Southern territories as bananas were enjoyed throughout Britain, with the importers having depots at all the main centres. Because bananas were imported at a number of ports round the coast, banana vans might be lent to other companies when they could be spared. Transfers for SR and BR livery periods.

Construction note
The solebar ends fit into the headstocks recesses, so it proves rather difficult to fit the solebars to the floor grooves after the body has been assembled.
We suggest assembling one end to the two sides and floor, then fitting the floor and sliding the solebars into place (pressing them home into the solebar recesses, do not glue yet).
Next test-fit the second end to ensure all the parts fit properly before fixing the floor to sides and solebars.
