Navis Neptun 1/1250 1003B KMS Scharnhorst German WW2 Battlecruiser, 1943
A 1/1250 scale waterline model of Scharnhorst in 1943 by Neptun 1003B.
This model represents Scharnhorst as she was when sunk at the Battle of North Cape just after Christmas 1943 by HMS Duke of York, cruisers and destroyers.
Scharnhorst could always be distinguished from Gneisenau during WW2 because she had a tripod mainmast behind the aircraft catapult. Often considered to be under-gunned (11"), it should be remembered that the rate of fire was nearly double that of other battleships and it was a long range weapon too.
