It wasn't just the collieries which needed large engines, as the petroleum and chemical industries grew and developed larger, more capable plants the volumes of products needing to be moved around, between and from them increased from wagon loads to train loads. Larger and more powerful locomotives were ordered to cope with the increasing weights of wagons and trains, leading Imperial Chemical Industries to order a 16 inch cylinder engine in 1946.

Andrew Barclay 2226 has a rated tractive effort of 18,990lbf, approaching the raw train-moving capacity of a class 5 locomotive, though it won't get so far before running out of steam! 2226 worked at the ICI Huddersfield plant until 1967 when diesel shunting engines arrived, however the engine was donated by ICI to the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway Preservation Society, arriving at their Haworth depot in April 1968. Although used on passenger trains in the early years of the preserved line the engines heavy axleload and short wheelbase made it less than ideal for regular services and when the boiler certificate expired it was placed on display at Oxenhope.
Sold in 1992 it was displayed in a picnic area of a Poynton garden centre until sold again to a volunteer on the Churnet Valley Railway. Currently on static display it is intended to restore 2226 for station pilot and light passenger duties at Cheddleton.
