Production of the Luchs (Lynx) tracked armored reconnaissance vehicle ended in January 1944 after only 100 were built. Therefore, an alternative was needed by Germany, and the chassis of the Czech-built Pz.Kpfw. 38(t) was selected. The result was the Aufklarungspanzer 38(t), which featured a 2cm KwK 38 gun mounted in a Hngelafette (swivel mounting turret. (Incidentally, this is the same turret as mounted on the Sd.Kfz. 250/9, 251/23 and 234/1). In the end, only fifty of these reconnaissance vehicles were produced.
