One of three purpose-built U-boat tenders completed in 1940 by Howaldswerk, Wilhelm Bauer was initially deployed to the eastern section as the accommodation for U-boat crew. She was bombed and sunk at Travermunde in 1945. The sister-ships survived and were allocated to USSR after WW2.
