Dapol 4F-013-171 Southern Railway Gunpowder Van 62133 OO
Model of a RCH standard type gunpowder van finished in Southern Railway livery.
All-steel gunpowder vans were used to convey all forms to explosive and highly flammable materials, ranging from commercial blasting explosives for mining and quarrying to the various explosives used by the military for filling and firing ordnance.
The design of gunpowder vans changed little from the designs developed from the GWR iron mink type wagons of the late 1880s, with most of the wagons built after WW1 being very similar, right up to the last vans built to British Railways orders.
