British Railways Southern Region 3 coach set 398 formed of 2 brake third class coaches flanking a composite coach all built during the Maunsell era and finished in British Railways crimson and cream livery.
The Southern formed most of its' passenger carriage fleet into sets which could be used as a complete train, or formed with other coach sets to make up a longer train. These self-contained portions could then split off to serve multiple destinations, so 3 coaches are ideal to represent a long-distance cross-country service on a small layout.
