Only a handful of Police forces used the Ford Capri Mk1, but the
Lancashire County Constabulary were unusual in having no fewer than
eight V6-powered 3000 GTs on their fleet. Lancashire had a lot of
motorway miles to police at the time, and the Capri was seen as an ideal
vehicle for this role. It was fast and although it tended to oversteer
when under power, especially in the wet, it was very capable in the
right hands. The cars were all finished in Lancashire County
Constabulary's famous DayGlo orange paint which maximized their presence
and helped to protect officers whilst engaged at the scene of a
motorway incident.
