The Australian Grand Prix first took place in 1928 at Phillip Island in the city of Melbourne, and since this date there have been 77 races in Australia at various race circuits across the country. Since 1996 the Australian Grand Prix has been held at the Albert Park circuit. With exception to a few occasions, the Australian Grand Prix is the opening race of the Formula One® season, this year attracting over 100,000 spectators. The 2013 season opener took place on March 17th with the German triple World Champion Sebastian Vettel as the pole sitter with local hero Mark Webber locking out an all Red Bull Racing front row. Despite starting down in seventh place on the grid, Lotus F1 Team driver Kimi Raikkonen won the 58 lap race by effectively managing his tyre wear by pitting only twice for new Pirelli rubber during the race, finishing 12 seconds ahead of runner-up Fernando Alonso in his Ferrari and 22 seconds ahead of Vettel. The car modelled here is a scale replica of Kimi’s Australian Grand Prix winning car.
