Bachmann 33-088 GWR 5 Plank China Clay with Tarpaulin Cover GWR Grey Weathered OO
Model of a 5 plank end door china clay wagon in GWR grey livery. These wagons were used to convey china clay from the clay dries at the quarries to the UK potteries, paper plants and ports for export. When loaded the wagons were covered by a tarpaulin to prevent contamination of the load.
Cornwall was the main source for china clay so the GWR owned a fleet of these wagons, with more being built by British Railways after nationalisation, these later wagons remaining in service until the early 1980s.
