Bachmann 35-126ASF HN 20314 English Electric Type 1 Class 20 Diesel Harry Needle RR Company Orange DCC Sound OO
This Bachmann model features a detailed bodyshell finished in the British Railways green livery, which some of the class 20s carried until 1980 with the steam-era headcode discs carried by these early diesel locomotives. The model is driven by a centrally mounted motor and flywheel set powering all four axles via driveshafts, with smooth running and excellent hauling capabilities.
Model finished as locomotive 20314 in Harry Needle RR company orange livery. DCC & sound fitted.
British Railways proposed to test diesel locomotives through a 'pilot scheme' of locomotives specified to perform similarly to steam engines. The 'type 1' specification called for a locomotive up to 1000bhp intended to replace 0-6-0 types in local goods service. The end-cabbed English Electric response used an 8 cylinder version of the well developed and reliable SVT engine and was by far the most successful type 1 design.
