Albatros 1/1250 Alk118 USS IX 99, ex-Sea Cloud, armed yacht 1942
IX 99 was the designation given to the private sailing yacht Sea Cloud when she was taken over by the US Navy in 1942. With her masts and sails removed, the deep hull of a sailing vessel gave great stability to the ship for use in the North Atlantic as an armed escort in WW2. This ship is still afloat today having been re-built by a German ship owner and given her original name back and used to give customers sailing ship cruises into the 21st Century.
The model is in good condition (see photograph) with its original box.
