Coastlines 1/1250 CL-B02a Thames stem head barge with sails stowed
A 1/1250 scale model of a Thames stem head barge with sails stowed by Coastlines Models CL-B02a. Thames barges of this type could be seen on rivers in the south and east of the country and ports along the south east coast of England. They could also travel inland via the River Thames and the Thames and Severn Canal as far as Brimscombe Port in Gloucestershire.
Although the Thames and Severn Canal continued westwards beyond the inland port of Brimscombe, the end on connection to the Stroudwater Canal did not allow the Thames Barges to reach the River Severn because the older Stroudwater was built with locks to accommodate the Severn Trows and could not hold a Thames barge and the locks to the east could not hold the wider Severn Trows. Through cargos were transhipped at Brimscombe.
