Since the lighthouse was finished in 1811, only one ship has been lost on the rock which lies completely hidden at high water (HMS Argyll in 1915 when the light was extinguished on Admiralty orders)! The model represents the lighthouse at high water during most of the twentieth century before lower prominent windows were fitted.
