These Batch 3 L-class submarines were distinguished from the earlier L class by having two guns fitted in the superstructure. Only L55 entered service before the Armistice and she was sunk before the cease fire. The class is sometimes referred to as the L52 class because both L50 & L51 were cancelled as the war ended.
